Superior Essex - LCA, EPD and HPD

Superior Essex is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of wire and cable products, and has made it a top priority to lead the way in environmental sustainability within its industry. Identifying sustainability as a tool to develop competitive advantage and create long-term value, Superior Essex turned to SSC as a partner to advance its sustainability strategy.

In order to benchmark product performance and impact data, SSC conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for 51 Superior Essex premises copper and fiber optic data cable products. Utilizing extensive expertise and relationships with EPD program operators, SSC developed and published the resulting data in four Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) which were released along with 50 Health Product Declarations (HPDs) – all industry firsts. Focusing on sustainability and reducing impacts has allowed Superior Essex to reduce manufacturing costs, reach new markets, and cement its role as a market leader.

Realized Results

  • As a stepping stone in sustainability, LCA data enables Superior Essex to effectively focus its efforts on improving the largest environmental impact drivers, improving operations, and reducing overall life cycle impacts.
  • Releasing these industry-first EPDs and HPDs demonstrates Super Essex’s commitment to providing sustainable products and has strengthened its position as an industry leader.
  • Increased transparency not only allows Superior Essex products to satisfy market needs, but also secure new customers.
